Below, we have listed a few medical and psychological points to make note of before diving into our information and proposals.

● Postpartum psychosis is treatable, but research on treatment is limited due to its rarity.
● Individuals with postpartum psychosis often do not seek care themselves because the condition disrupts their sense of reality.
● Family members or friends usually decide to have the person hospitalized.
● Treatment methods include medications and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
● Medications used may include:
○ Antipsychotic medications
○ Antiseizure medications (used as mood stabilizers)
○ Mood stabilizers such as lithium
● Specific medications:
○ Olanzapine and Lorazepam are recommended antipsychotics and are considered safe during lactation.
○ Lithium helps manage symptoms like catatonia, agitation, and insomnia.
○ Antipsychotics and lithium are often used together.
○ Antiseizure medications are especially helpful for individuals with co-occurring
bipolar disorder or epilepsy.
● Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT):
○ Considered safe and highly effective
○ Uses a mild electrical current to induce a controlled seizure
